Summary:
Responsible for interacting with local businesses to identify and facilitate job placement and career advancement opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Hours:
Typical hours are Monday – Friday within normal business hours, but may vary outside these parameters based on client needs, and job requirements.

Vocational Program Director

Essential Functions:

  • Support and assist individuals with a variety of disabilities in obtaining employment.
  • Interviews candidates for employment and reviews their resumes, academic records, reference statements, and other documentation to gain a full understanding of each person’s abilities.
  • Assess work skills and abilities, as well as other life skills, as they pertain to employment.
  • Create and maintain resumes and reference sheets for consumers. Obtain and verify references of consumers.
  • Assist consumers in preparing for employer contact and employment interviews. Prepares consumer for interview with background information on the employer and the particular job. Accompany consumers to interviews when appropriate. Gains feedback after the interview. Follows up wherever possible to maximize opportunity for placement.
  • Communicate professionally with consumers, employers, funding sources, and co-workers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with consumers, employers, and funding sources.
  • Monitor employment progress of consumers who secure employment positions.
  • Complete correspondence with consumers, employers, funding sources, and co-workers / supervisors in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work with employers to create employment opportunities, where none had existed before
  • Evaluate needs for accommodations for disabilities in work settings.
  • Complete work functions analysis within business and industry.
  • Write and develop consumer-specific plans for job development and maintenance of employment.
  • Complete reports in a professional manner; submit according to specified deadlines. Maintain necessary documentation for consumer records.
  • Promotes, develops, and terminates on the job training programs.
  • Train Job Coaches on how to coach and support consumers in employment settings. Work with staff to monitor and support employment placements of consumers.
  • Participate in Team and Agency Meetings, and work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Ensure the delivery of services which are reflective of our agency philosophy, consumer empowerment, and advocacy.
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures. Complete required agency paperwork and documentation.
  • Maintain a caseload level determined by Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor within the objectives and position description of the Team.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Human Services,   Business/Marketing (or similar fields); or commensurate experience. Sales background is helpful.

Additional Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to tolerate considerable amounts of driving.  Must have car insurance coverage that meets agency requirements .
  • Ability to work within a fast paced and ever changing environment and schedule.
  • Strong initiative; comfort in cold calling.
  • Understanding of disabilities and how they impact employability.
  • Strong communication skills to influence behavior of job candidates and encourage employers to consider candidates we support.
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Resourceful, tactful and respectful when dealing with clients, employers, etc…
  • Excellent Time Management skills.
  • Ability to present before large and small employers and groups of professionals.
  • Ability and willingness to work varied hours necessary to obtain placements needed.
  • Computer-literate
  • Ability to work in multiple programs with different funding sources and procedures.
